Frill Sharks are long and eel-like. They live at deep depths making them difficult to study but come up to the surface to follow prey. Their diet includes squid, octopus, and smaller sharks. They can eat prey up to half their size by (scientists speculate) striking them like a snake. They have been found off coasts in both Pacific and Atlantic. Frilled shark bodies sometimes wash up on beaches or float up to the surface, however seeing a live frill shark up this far is pretty rare---usually if they're this impaired (likely blind) predators will pick them off pretty quickly.

if you think they look a lil scary, NO FEAR! they're actually pretty small! sometimes they get tangled up in fishing nets, but are typically dead or die very soon. you can see one of the only ones they put in an aquarium here
